This course emphasizes developement of strong reading skills, using Movable Do solfege and count singing. With a different focus each time the workshop is offered, the course is an excellent foundation for beginners or next step for seasoned sightsingers.
Topics covered include:
- Solfege, both in familiar contexts and in sightsinging
- Everything you wanted to know about basic theory but were afraid to ask
- Successful strategies for improving sightsinging ability
Instructor:
Marie Schrader has a degree in Music Education with emphasis in Vocal Performance, from Sonoma State University. In addition to conducting the choir at Windsor High School, Ms. Schrader is also the Music Teacher at Brooks Elementary School in the Windsor School District. She also has taught music for various organizations including Kenwood School, Sonoma Valley Children’s Chorus, Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus, and Vivace Adult Chorus. She has also performed and toured with vocal groups such as Santa Rosa Junior College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, Sonoma State University Chorus. Ms. Schrader has toured Europe twice with the Northern California Chamber Chorale.
